Support & FAQ

Taktap is a metronome for musicians: precise timing, trainers, practice sessions, songs, setlists and Stage Mode. It needs no account and works offline. Coming soon to iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later).

Version 1.0.0 is coming soon.

Getting started

  • Start and stop: the large play button. Tap Tempo is beside it; − and + change the tempo by the step chosen below the tempo (1, 5 or 10).
  • Meter, subdivision, sound: the three buttons under the tempo.
  • Train, Practice, Perform: the tabs at the bottom. The bar above them shows what is playing and what a trainer is doing to the beat.
  • Stage Mode: the microphone button at the top of the main screen, at the top of Perform, in a song or in a setlist. While locked, Start is a tap and Stop is a half-second press (the button fills as you hold it); hold the lock for one second to unlock.

Common questions

The click and the screen don’t line up with Bluetooth headphones.

Bluetooth adds a delay. Open Settings → Latency calibration and tap along with what you hear; Taktap remembers it for each kind of output.

The metronome stopped after a phone call.

By design it stays stopped after an interruption, so it never starts again by surprise. Tap Start.

The metronome stopped when I unplugged my headphones.

By design, so the click never jumps to the speaker in a quiet room.

Music from another app stops when Taktap plays.

Turn on Settings → Play with other apps. Taktap then gives up the lock-screen controls to the other app.

Taktap’s panel doesn’t show on the lock screen.

It shows while the metronome plays, if Live Activities are allowed for Taktap in the iOS Settings app. It ends when you stop. To keep it from going stale on a locked phone, it shows the song, tempo, meter and setlist rather than the beat itself.

My headphones’ play/pause doesn’t start or stop Taktap.

Check Settings → Lock screen → Player on the lock screen. With the player hidden, play/pause on headphones and AirPods and in Control Center no longer reach Taktap. It also has no lock-screen controls while Play with other apps is on.

What are the “(demo)” songs in Perform?

A demo setlist added on first launch to show what a song can hold: a count-in, a shuffle, 7/8 and a tempo map. Swipe to delete them; they never come back.

The screen turns off while I play.

Settings → Keep the screen on (on by default).

How do I keep my songs when I change phones?

Your device’s own backup carries them. You can also use Settings → Back up everything, and Restore from that backup on the new device.

Does Taktap need the internet or an account?

No. Everything works offline, and there is no account to create.
